Jacob's Mendability Experience One

Jacob's Mendability Experience One

"When I first heard about Mendability, I was excited about it. But when I heard the age groups, I kinda got nervous about it because I did not want to do something I would not like. And when me and my mom saw the videos of the things I was supposed to do, first off; what they were doing was weird. Secondly, it creeped me out the way the person was talking about the things and lastly I was kinda reluctant because I know no one in my age group would like to do those things. This is my thoughts so far."
~ Jacob Klein

So, that was Jacob's take on Mendability thus far. I would just like to add that although Jacob has not been comfortable trying all of the techniques, he has stuck with one of them. We changed some of the routine at bedtime up and our therapy has worked like this:
1. Downloaded some TSO onto the mp3 player and some other songs recommended by the instructors at Mendability. Check one for mom!
2. Jacob agreed to the scented night time eye covering from Bed, Bath & Beyond (he had to pick the scent though). We put that in his pillow case for night time.
3. Since last week, every night, Jacob uses his mp3 player and the scent in his pillow to go to sleep.

The first night was rough as he squawked at the idea a tad but he was still willing to try...

Since then, the biggest change I have noticed is that I am not having to wake him up in the morning. Of course, since he is not in school, he has not wanted to get up before noon. But since night two, he has been going to bed at a descent time and has gotten up around 10:00 a.m. all on his own!! I did not even get this response when he was in school. Mornings have always been a bear for Jacob, Tony, and me.

I am so happy with what may seem like a small and insignificant detail in life because to my family, it is a huge leap in a remarkably short time. I will take this victory and cherish it. The other exercises can wait and will happen on "Jacob's time".
