Some things are assigned to Jacob and some are assigned to me. Other types of information are going to be completed with both of us working collaboratively. When it's all said and done we will have a lot of information for people who have the pleasure of having someone with Autism in their life.
The people we're trying to reach are parents who have just recently found out their child has autism. These parents may be scared, concerned, angry and going through a lot of emotions at the same time. I can remember that day as if it were yesterday even though it was over 16 years ago.
We want to help alleviate some of the stress that parents have especially when there are siblings involved. This can make the whole situation even more worrisome on many levels. Our main purpose is to provide these parents with current credible medical and behavioral information as well as advice, news and stories about others who are in or who have been in a similar situation. However, most importantly we want to give them help. We want them to learn about the autism spectrum and diagnosis itself through objective information as well as Jacob and my personal opinions and experiences.
Jacob will be discussing different therapies he's tried and which have worked or not worked for him. He will talk about other experiences that he's had to deal with such as bullying and other harassment. He has also had to deal with issues in school with teachers who are no help, those in the school system who have been strong support services for him. He will talk about other places and situations where he's felt uncomfortable.
My perspective will be from a pediatric nursing one which is one of my backgrounds as well as a single parent of a teenage boy who has autism. I hope to give parents inspirational stories they can hold on to and educational sites they may not be aware of. I will also talk about my personal experiences with having a child that has autism.
Some of the things we'll be including in our project are autism quotes based on my art, samples from our Overcoming Autism Facebook Page, Twitter lists, giving kudos to other autism bloggers, designing an infographic with statistics about autism, and hopefully interviews with thought-leaders regarding autism. This mini projects will be on our blog Overcoming Autism, and all of my social media websites. It's a big project and we hope that we can finish it by the end of the month.
We will be providing a place on our blog with links to resources for parents, teachers and others who help those living with autism, designing a Livebinder, and reviewing and expressing our personal intake on industry news. Jacob will be curating different Pinterest boards that people have created along with our own boards on Pinterest regarding autism and Aspergers'. Jacob will be doing a podcast, and we hope to have polls and surveys for people to answer.
We are looking to publish guest blog posts so if you're interested in helping let us know. SlideShare presentations are a great way to disseminate information and we will also provide the ones we have created as well as searching and sharing some of the best ones we can find on Slideshare. We are looking to provide step by step guides, a timeline of Asperger's and autism, video playlist and flipbooks.
It's a big project and in the end, we hope that we will come out with enough information to create a book and a complete website. If you or anyone you know who would like to help us with our project, please feel free to get in contact with me as soon as possible. As many people with knowledge that parents who have a child recently diagnosed are welcome to contribute in any way they wish.
It's great to be doing something with my son especially when in the end it will help raise awareness and acceptance for those who have autism and the parents who love them unconditionally and are in need of assistance. This can be a daunting task with so much information on the internet. It can be quite overwhelming just hearing the diagnosis much less starting the research process we all go through on the internet.
Please get in touch with me if you wish to participate in this project with Jacob and me. We would love all the help we can get. It is definitely a great cause and one that deserves this much attention. We hope you agree.
Regards,
~Holley Jacobs
